BIKE LOCK CODE: 23456
Welcome and thanks for coming. Start by walking toward the waterfall, take the underpass to access the historic highway and either explore Multnomah Falls right now, and lock your bike up, or continue on to the rest of the waterfalls, saving the best for last.
Park your bikes in the bike rack in the first employee parking lot on the left as you walk under the train bridge. Instead of crossing the pedestrian bridge with the bikes just walk the bikes to the left and you’ll find a bike rack on the right. Please do not use the rack in front of the lodge where the “no e-bikes in plaza” sign is located. There’s also good bike parking just to the right of the lodge, on the left, by the picnic table. Just lock the bikes together there. Give us a ring/text if you need some guidance we’re happy to help.
Multnomah Falls
Type: plunge
Height: 620 feet
Time to Benson Footbridge and back: 20 Minutes
This landmark bridge at the base of the upper falls is iconic and can be accessed by a gradual and paved trail from the lodge. This trail passes the viewpoint of the lower falls and is accessible to all.
Multnomah Falls Lodge
The main level includes the Forest Service information center, a large gift shop and restroom facilities. The lower level includes kiosks for snacks and drinks and the upper level includes a restaurant.
Hike to the Top
Past the bridge, the trail continues to the top of the falls where you’ll find a viewing platform cantilevered over the waterfall. It’s beautiful, but it takes a fit hiker 90 minutes and most people 2+ hours. In our opinion there’s better bang for your buck hikes elsewhere like Bridal Veil and Latourell Falls.
Ride .5 miles West to Wahkeena Falls. Park the bikes against the railing, near the shuttle loading zone, without blocking the zone.
Wahkeena Falls
Type: tiered
Height: 242 feet
Time to the Bridge at Base of Wahkeena Falls and back: 30 Minutes
A short hike to the bridge at the base of Wahkeena Falls is an option that provides beautiful views and an amazing energy up at the waterfall. The elevation gain is 150 feet and the mostly paved trail passes through a beautiful burned forest. The forest is burnt but survived because these Douglas Fir trees have extra thick bark that makes them impervious to fire.
Continue 3.2 miles about 15 minutes to Bridal Veil Falls. Stay left at the fork. When you arrive, walk the bikes toward the bathroom building where you’ll find a bike rack. Please don’t ride around in Bridal Veil.
Bridal Veil Falls (State Scenic Area)
Type: Tiered
Height: Upper falls: 60–100 feet; Lower falls 40–60 feet
Time to Bridal Veil Falls and back: 30 Minutes
The trail to Bridal Veil Falls descends to the base of the falls where a viewing platform allows great views of the upper and lower portion of the falls.
Time to Scenic Overlook Trail (NO BIKES): 15 Minutes
A level trail to the Pillars of Hercules is paved and features views of the basalt pillars that make up the formation. The rock formations can be enjoyed as an alternate or addition to the hike to Bridal Veil Falls. You may be ticketed by State Parks if you ride e-bikes on the path in the park.
Ride 1 mile West to Shepperd’s Dell Falls. Lock bikes to each other somewhere out of the way.
Shepperd’s Dell Falls
Type: tiered
Height: Upper falls 35–50 feet; Lower falls 40–60 feet
The two tiers of this falls can be seen from the bridge crossing at Shepperd’s Dell State Park. The lower falls is a horsetail formation and the upper falls is a plunge formation.
From the bridge you’ll see the original Shepperd’s dairy farm which was homesteaded and then donated to the state for the park you’re standing in. The Shepperd’s lived here before the road and couldn’t reach church on Sundays, so they worshipped here in Shepperd’s Dell.
Ride 1.2 miles West to Latourell Falls. Park bikes in the bike rack centrally located on the sidewalk.
Latourell Falls
Type: plunge
Height: 249 feet
Latourell Falls
15 Minutes
Take the trail that heads down to the falls. Enjoy a short walk on a gradual gravel trail to the base of Latourell Falls. Allow 15 minutes round-trip. There is also a longer figure eight loop to the base of the Falls and continuing along Latourell Creek and then returning across the Latourell Bridge. Allow 25 minutes for this longer loop. Consult the trail map at the kiosk.
Bonus Waterfall!
Consider doing the full 2 mile round trip which takes you to Upper Latourell Falls. Here’s the all trails link. The full loop takes about an hour.
Crown Point Vista House
Type: viewpoint
Height: 739 feet
Crown Point
15 Minutes
2 miles past Latourell Falls you’ll find the Crown Point Vista House. Wind your way up one of the most beautiful sections of the entire route to the most epic viewpoint affectionately known as the million dollar bathroom. The views of the Gorge from up there are unforgettable.
Turn around and ride 7 miles East back to where you parked. It’ll take about 25 minutes if you go straight there at full blast. 45 mins if you’re going slower/making stops. Lock the bikes up and text your host a picture confirming they’re all locked up and good to go.
