Stop One

Horsetail Falls + Upper Horsetail Falls

Horsetail and Upper Horsetail Falls
Type: Horsetail
Height: lower falls 176 feet;
upper falls 60 feet

On the left side of the road you’ll find Horsetail Falls. There’s no bike rack here so just lock the bikes together out of the way or if you’re solo to the weight limit sign on the right hand side of the road across from the falls.

To access Upper Horsetail hike up the trail .2 miles gaining about 190 feet of elevation. You’re hiking to the top of Horsetail and back another 100 yards to an amazing waterfall tucked away that features a cave you can enter while watching the waterfall fall off the edge. A truly amazing feature, well worth the effort.

Ride 2.5 miles West to Multnomah Falls. Park your bikes in the bike rack in the first employee parking lot on the right, just before you cross the bridge and get to Multnomah Falls. Please do not use the rack in front of the lodge where the “no e-bikes in plaza” sign is located. There’s also good bike parking just past the lodge, on the left, by the picnic table. Just lock the bikes together there. Give us a ring/text if you need some guidance we’re happy to help.

Stop Two

Multnomah Falls

Multnomah Falls –
Type: plunge
Height: 620 feet

Benson Footbridge
20 Minutes

This landmark bridge at the base of the upper falls is iconic and can be accessed by a gradual and paved trail from the lodge. This trail passes the viewpoint of the lower falls and is accessible to all.

Multnomah Falls Lodge

The main level includes the Forest Service information center, a large gift shop and restroom facilities. The lower level includes kiosks for snacks and drinks, the upper level includes a restaurant.

Hike to the Top

Past the bridge the trail continues to the top of the falls where you’ll find a viewing platform cantilevered over the waterfall. It’s beautiful, but it takes a fit hiker 90 minutes and most people 2+ hours. In our opinion there’s better bang for your buck hikes elsewhere like Wahclella Falls and Latourell Falls.

Ride .5 miles West to Wahkeena Falls. Park the bikes against the railing, near the shuttle loading zone, without blocking the zone.

Stop Three

Wahkeena Falls

Wahkeena Falls
Type: tiered
Height: 242 feet

Bridge at Base of Wahkeena Falls
20 Minutes

A short hike to the bridge at the base of Wahkeena Falls is an option that provides beautiful views and an amazing energy up at the waterfall. The elevation gain is 150 feet and the mostly paved trail passes through a beautiful burned forest. The forest is burnt but survived because these Douglas Fir trees have extra thick bark that makes them impervious to fire.

Continue 3.2 miles about 15 minutes to Bridal Veil Falls. Stay left at the fork. When you arrive walk the bikes toward the bathroom building where you’ll find a bike rack. Please don’t ride around in Bridal Veil.

Stop Four

Bridal Veil Falls

Bridal Veil Falls (State Scenic Area)
Type: Tiered
Height: upper falls: 60–100 feet
lower falls 40–60 feet

Bridal Veil Falls:
30 Minutes

The trail to Bridal Veil Falls descends to the base of the falls where a viewing platform allows great views of the upper and lower portion of the falls.

Scenic Overlook Trail (NO BIKES)
15 Minutes

A level trail to the Pillars of Hercules is paved and features views of the basalt pillars that make up the formation. The rock formations can be enjoyed as an alternate or addition to the hike to Bridal Veil Falls. You may be ticketed by State Parks if you ride e-bikes on the path in the park.

Ride 1 mile West to Shepperds Dell Falls. Lock bikes to each other somewhere out of the way.

Stop Five

Sheppards Dell Falls

Sheppards Dell Falls
Type: tiered
Height: upper falls 35–50 feet;
lower falls 40–60 feet

The two tiers of this falls can be seen from the bridge crossing at Sheppards Dell State Park. The lower falls is a horsetail formation and the upper falls is a plunge formation.

From the bridge you’ll see the original Shepperds dairy farm which was homesteaded and then donated to the state for the park you’re standing in. The Shepperds lived here before the road and couldn’t reach church on Sundays so they worshipped here in Shepperds Dell.

Ride 1.2 miles West to Latourell Falls. Park bikes in bike rack centrally located on sidewalk.

Stop Six

Latourell Falls

Latourell Falls
Type: plunge
Height: 249 feet

Latourell Falls
15 Minutes

Take the trail that heads down to the falls. Enjoy a short walk on a gradual gravel trail to the base of Latourell Falls. Allow 15 minutes round-trip. There is also a longer figure eight loop to the base of the Falls and continuing along Latourell Creek and then returning across the Latourell Bridge. Allow 25 minutes for this longer loop. Consult the trail map at the kiosk.

Bonus Waterfall!

Consider doing the full 2 mile round trip which takes you to Upper Latourell Falls. Here’s the all trails link. The full loop takes about an hour.

Bonus Viewpoint!

You’re 12 miles away so only do this if you still have at least 4 bars of battery (measured at rest). You can continue past Latourell Falls for 2 miles (all up hill) and go up to Crown Point Vista House. It’s got amazing views of the Gorge.

Turn around and ride 12 miles East back to where you parked. It’ll take about 40 minutes if you go straight there at full blast. 1 hour if you’re going slower/making stops. When you come back, ride the gravel path on the left up to your car, not the driveway. It’s less steep than the to steep to ride road.
